Though Ashish and I have been in the LA area for more than 3 years, we had never visited the LA zoo. So the video of the Baby Giraffe on the news last week, sparked us to go visit the Zoo over the weekend.
The zoo is located in Griffith park, along with a lot of other attractions like the Travel Town and the Merry-go-round. The Los Angeles Zoo is not talked about as much as Disneyland or Universal Studios, so we were under the impression that there would be very few animals.
We were pleasantly surprised at the size of the zoo. Apart from the animal exhibits, these is also a Aviary and a Reptile house. It is pretty big and you need to wear comfortable shoes since there is a lot to walk. The zoo is designed to create a natural habitat for the animals. We saw a variety of animals that we had never seen from the Sumatran Tigers and the Tapirs, the Kangaroos to the Giraffes, the Anaconda to the Condors. It was also really nice to see the babies - there was a baby giraffe, a baby orangutan, a baby golden-cheeked monkey, baby tiger cubs and a baby tapir.
We went there around 1:00 PM and got about 3 hours to see the animals. Didn't get a chance to see the aviary since they start putting the animals away for the night at 4:00 PM, but we will cover that the next time!
